What’s Hot: 5 Hottest-Selling Categories

Hello eBay Sellers, I’m HammerTap’s Jen Cano with a What’s Hot on eBay newsflash.

This week, I asked HammerTap’s eBay database administrator to tell me the five hottest selling categories on eBay today. Here are the top five, according to the highest volume of items sold:

  • #1. DVD in the DVDs & Movies category
  • #2. CDs in the Music category
  • #3. Nonfiction Books in the Books category
  • #4. Games in the Video Games category
  • #5. Records in the Music category

Incidentally, the top five in January last year were exactly the same as the top five this year, so these categories have some longevity.

What’s Hot: Dog Water Fountains

Hello eBay Sellers, I’m HammerTap’s Jen Cano with a What’s Hot on eBay newsflash.

eBay has given Dog Water Fountains in Home & Garden’s Pet Supplies category a super hot rating this month. I used HammerTap to determine how to sell these drinking fountains for pets, and here’s what I found.

Waterwell brand is the best seller, boosting the overall chances of selling by 20%. Also, if you list it as a Regular Auction without BIN, you’re practically guaranteed that it will sell. To boost your selling price, end your auction on a Wednesday and try using bold.

What’s Hot: Modern American Paintings

Hello eBay Sellers, I’m HammerTap’s Jen Cano with a What’s Hot on eBay newsflash.

Did you know that a low starting price might stimulate more bids, in some cases, but it doesn’t necessarily stimulate a higher price. Take Modern American Paintings, for example. I used HammerTap, auction research software, to analyze starting prices for products in this category. Here’s what I found.

The auction to receive the highest number of bids had a starting price of only $1.99 and sold for just $66. On the other hand, many of the auctions to receive only one bid had starting prices of well over $100 and sold for anywhere between $100 to $3500. That’s just one bid!

What does this mean for you? A low starting price doesn’t necessarily mean a higher selling price.

Use HammerTap to discover the best starting prices for your own auctions!
